1969 Camaro Z28 For Sale
This war is heavenly for the shellshocked domestic auto companies. The sales of these desirable compact sports cars have given GM, Ford and even Chrysler, with its Dodge Challenger, an essential boost in a time of economic strain.
Since June, the new Camaro has won the monthly sales battle over Mustang, but still trailed the Ford's annual sales count of 56,469 units through October to 47,233 for the Chevy, and 21,276 for Challenger, according to the Detroit Free Press.
The Original Pony Car
It was more than 40 years ago when the pony cars originally faced off. Mustang led the pack, debuting in 1964 with a rear-wheel-drive two-door coupe with a long hood and short rear deck. An instant hit, Mustang eventually triggered the release of competitive models such as Camaro, Pontiac Firebird, Dodge Challenger, Plymouth Barracuda and AMC Javelin.
